Hello. I’m Girts Gailans – one half of 2minty studio.

My work is characterised by strong shapes and textures, where shadows can play with the visible forms to emphasise them and give life and depth to an object or an image.
Photography has occupied most of my life, producing both commissioned work for architects and construction companies, and a mix of commissioned and library images for publishers worldwide.
More recently, I have branched out to sell prints of my personal work for use as ‘wall art‘, both domestically and commercially.

Clay is a more recent activity. It’s the direct opposite of photography, transforming concepts into 3D forms instead of transforming 3D forms into 2D. On the whole, my work in this field tends not to have a straight line to be seen; you could say it’s a celebration of curves. But the strong shapes and textures are there in abundance. Using porcelain or stoneware, I like to create pieces which are a new take on traditional forms; pieces that can be used or can simply be admired for their architectural qualities. Possibly linking back to my previous photographic life?

My work is available for sale at selected Art and Craft Shows, as well as an annual Open Studio event. Selected work is available online from Pixels.com, Small Market and Etsy. You can enquire about buying other works or commissioning something special in either medium – photography or clay – by contacting me through the contact page here.
I am a member of Devon Artists Network and of The Westcountry Potters Association.
